A unique event to follow in Alfred Wainwright’s footsteps will be held later this year.

In 1985, the celebrated guidebook writer returned to Haystacks for a final time for the Wainwright TV series.

To mark the 40th anniversary, people will have the opportunity to retrace his visit with the producer of that TV series, Richard Else and Wainwright archivist Chris Butterfield.

The walk, on September 13, will visit the original filming locations around Innominate Tarn and Richard will share personal recollections from that historic day, bringing to life the behind-the-scenes stories of Wainwright’s final visit to his most cherished fell.

The day concludes with an intimate joint talk by Richard and Chris at the Glaramara Hotel in Borrowdale, including rare film footage and discussion.

It is not a guided walk and people are responsible for their own safety, navigation, and equipment.

The walk and talk is £50 and is limited to 30 people. For more information, chris@alfredwainwright.co.uk
