Last night saw a four race meeting at Spadeadam, with ideal conditions for the hounds.

The seniors got things underway with a slip of 16. The majority of the hounds were together through out the race with different hounds taking the lead.

As they came on to the finish there was a long line of hounds all in with a chance but two hounds came away just before the line with Sportsman for the Mark family, striding out and just getting to the line before Minnie Million for Brian and Joy Lister.

Sportsman has a good record round Spadeadam and was second to Busy Again this time last year at the venue.

Minnie Million also runs well there and had been second last year but in the shorter puppy race.

Silver Dream was just behind in third place for Darren and Julie McMaster.

The open pups were next with a slip of 17. It was a tight affair as the two leading hounds came to the line.

Delta Fortune just got up in the last stride to take his 10th win of the season for Sarah and Baz Harper and Hartley Robinson.

Huntsman’s Unite for Denise and Jenny Bland and Graeme Little had to make do with second place.

There was a gap to third with Let It Be for Ruth Graham and Charlie Dixon.

The open maidens were next with a slip of 26 runners. As they showed on the finish it was any one of 10 hounds who had the chance to come through and take the win.

However, it was a first and second for the same kennel with Peggy Sue hanging on to take the win for Gillian Bullman-Brown and Mickey O’Brien with kennel mate Hey Mac taking second place for Neil and Gillian Brown.

Joel and Derek Bullman. Tallulah for George Burgeon and Carol Tunstall claimed third.

The final race of the night was the open restricted race with a slip of 15. As they came on to the finish two had broken clear and it was Millie’s Lad for George McGimpsey and Gillian and Millie Telford who won easily from Dream Catcher for Cathy, Brian and Joy Lister, both hounds having been there or thereabouts for the whole trail. In third place was Meadow Artisan for Paul Airey and Joanne Hodgson.

Racing resumes tomorrow, Thursday June 26, at Latrigg Top with a four race meeting. The first trail gets underway at 6.30pm.
