Changes to support for unpaid carers in Cumbria

There will be changes to support that unpaid carers receive in some parts of Cumbria later this year.

From October, services currently provided by Carer Support Carlisle & Eden and Carer Support West Cumbria will be co-ordinated by other organisations.

The contract for the unpaid carers support was put out to tender in April by Cumberland Council, but the existing providers were unsuccessful.

From October 1, the contract will be delivered by three organisations on behalf of the authority for carers in Carlisle, Allerdale and Copeland.

Young carers and parent carer support will be delivered by Family Action, adult carer support will be delivered by People First and digital carer support to create a digital AI-based platform will be delivered by Mobilise Care Ltd.

Carer Support Carlisle & Eden and Carer Support West Cumbria said they will work with the new providers to ensure a seamless handover for the carers they support in Cumberland.

Both organisations will contact the carers they support directly, updating them throughout this transition period.

Carers in Cumberland who have questions can contact their support worker directly.

Carers in the Eden area, supported by Carer Support Carlisle & Eden, are unaffected by these changes.

Carer Support West Cumbria will now focus on delivering charitable aims while continuing to work with the new providers, local organisations and alongside Carer Support Cumbria to support unpaid Carers.
