A registered sex offender has appeared in front of magistrates accused of breaching a court order three times.
Matthew Ferguson, 42, faces a total of four charges.
Three relate to the alleges breaches of a sexual harm prevention order he was given by a judge in 2021.
Ferguson is alleged to have breached the order, on May 29 and July 2, by interfering with and disabling police risk management software installed on mobile phone.
He is further alleged to have flouted the order by using an internet-enabled mobile phone in a way which prevented the device displaying and retaining history of internet use.
A fourth charge alleges that Ferguson, of London Road, Carlisle, failed to comply with notification requirements which are designed to keep police up to date with sex offenders’ personal information and whereabouts.
He is said to have done this by failing to notify police he had acquired a Barclays debit card between June 18 and July 2.
No pleas were entered to the four charges when Ferguson appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court this morning.
The case was sent to the city’s crown court. Ferguson is due to appear there for a plea and trial preparation hearing on August 1.
In the meantime, he remains remanded in custody.
