Steam train Saturday – get ready for the loco travelling through Cumbria

A steam locomotive will be travelling through Cumbria this weekend as another tour takes to the rails.

Saphos is behind the Lakelander tour on Saturday, which leaves Hereford at 6am to arrive in Carlisle at around 12.30pm, before leaving the Border City at around 3.30pm to travel on the Cumbria Coast Line on its return south.

The locomotive is likely to be the Mayflower, which will run from and to Crewe.

On its journey north, it is due to pass the following locations at the following times:

  • Carnforth 10.46am
  • Oxenholme 11am
  • Grayrigg 11.11am (departs 11.36am)
  • Tebay 11.43am
  • Shap summit 11.53am
  • Shap Harrisons sidings 11.57am
  • Penrith 12.06pm
  • Carlisle 12.28pm

Its journey south from Carlisle will see it pass the following locations:

  • Carlisle 15.32
  • Currock junction 15.38
  • Wigton 15.55
  • Maryport 16.18
  • Workington 16.26
  • Parton north junction 16.34
  • Parton 16.38
  • Whitehaven: 16.42
  • St Bees: 16.42
  • Sellafield: 17.06.
  • Drigg: 17.14
  • Bootle: 17.26
  • Silecroft: 17.32
  • Millom: 17.37. Departs 18.02
  • Foxfield: 18.07
  • Askam: 18.16
  • Park South: 18.19
  • Barrow: 18.31
  • Dalton junction: 18.40
  • Ulverston: 18.49
  • Grange-over-Sands: 19.02
  • Arnside: 19.10
  • Carnforth: 19.20
  • Carnforth North junction: 19.26
  • Carnforth South junction: 19.29. Departs 19.38.

If you are planning to see the steam train, please give yourself plenty of time as timings are approximate.
