A Carlisle martial arts academy has begun a fundraising campaign to buy a defibrillator.

B5 Martial Arts Academy, on English Gate Plaza, is run by brother and sister Charlie and Esther Beales.

The pair expanded the gym, off Botchergate, last September and said they wanted to install a defibrillator for members and the wider community.

On July 12, they will be holding a challenge to complete 1,000 rounds of sparring or bag work and aim to raise at least £1,000 towards the defibrillator.

Charlie, 20, and Esther, 24, said: “If we exceed that total of £1,000, any remaining funds once the purchase has been made will then be passed on to Carlisle Eden Mind.

“The main push behind this is that our academy is a place where people of all ages and fitness levels come to train and feel welcome.

“With so many on and off the mats daily, we know safety and prevention is a really important thing to consider and this is one more way we can look out for each other.

“We know the day will be a success as we have the backing of all of our members willing to put in a good shift to hit that target!”

The club has around 200 members and ages range from four years old to 50-plus.
