A new head girl and head boy have been appointed at Maryport’s Netherhall School.
Isla Hadden and Rhys Kirkbride were elected after a vote by pupils and a formal interview with assistant headteachers.
Isla is studying A-level English literature, fine art and religious studies, while also pursuing the EPQ. Isla’s ambition is to read for a degree in fashion journalism at the University of the Arts London College of Fashion before pursuing a career in this field.
Isla said she felt privileged to have been appointed to the position and hoped to use her role to provide support to students across the school and to represent the school to the best of her ability across the wider community.
Rhys is studying A-level English literature, French and history and his future ambition is to secure a place at university to read for a degree in English, with his long-term plan to become a secondary school teacher at Netherhall School.
Rhys said he was proud to representing the school and wanted to make a big contribution as head boy for the benefit of his fellow students. He said he was delighted and grateful to have been appointed.
Mark Bailey, assistant headteacher, said: “The strength of the field in the appointment of this year’s head boy and head girl was remarkable and I would like to congratulate Joe Hoyles on his appointment to the post of deputy head boy and Mia Graham on her appointment as deputy head girl.”
Joe is studying A-levels in English literature, history and music and hopes to pursue a degree in film production at university from 2026. Mia is studying applied science, health and social care and religious studies and hopes to secure a degree level apprenticeship at Sellafield from the autumn of 2026.
Mr Bailey added: “All four students are a credit to themselves, their families and to Netherhall School and will provide a great example and source of inspiration to their peers and to the younger students of the school.
“I would like to thank outgoing head boy Mitchell Larg and head girl Macie Crellin who, with the support of deputy head boy Leighton Almond and deputy head girl Emma Needham, have given outstanding service to the school over the past year. They have set exceptionally high standards for the incoming team.”
