The funeral details have been announced for former Workington Reds player Trevor Price.
Mr Price died on Sunday, July 6, surrounded by his family.
His family have thanked people for their messages of sympathy, cards and flowers.
His funeral service will be held at Distington Hall Crematorium on Tuesday July 22 at 1.15pm.
Family flowers only, and donations can be made to the air ambulance and the stroke ward at West Cumberland Hospital in memory of Mr Price.
He was born in Ellesmere Port and raised in Workington and joined Reds after a promising amateur career and was one of several local part-timers with the club.
He only played two senior games in 1964 but both were significant outings – a 3-1 defeat to Hull City, in which he scored the Reds goal and a 1-0 Boxing Day defeat at Brunton Park against Carlisle United.
Team-mate, and fellow local John Ogilvie, said: “Trevor was a smashing lad and a very good footballer.
“If it hadn’t been for the fact that we had two really experienced wingers Barry Lowes and Geoff Martin, who had been part of our promotion side, he would have played a lot more senior football.”
After leaving Reds, Trevor was in demand within the county, playing for Netherfield and Braithwaite, when both clubs had an abundance of ex-Reds, and then reuniting with Billy Robson at Haig Colliery. His wing skills won him many admirers.
He did make a return to Reds in the 1980s when he helped good friend Barry Gibb run the club’s A team and continued to support the club when he could.
Trevor was also a good friend of former groundsman, the late Billy Watson, and used to help him at Borough Park.
He leaves a wife Christine and children Trevor, Dean and Lisa.
