A Cumbrian village hall has been given a £12,000 boost.
Blindcrake Village Hall has been given the cash by Cumberland Council’s Lakes to Sea Community Panel to help its committee replace its heating system.
The new system, which requires additional funding from elsewhere, will use an air source heat pump, solar panels and batteries.
The hope is to create a warm space with power and wifi that can also be used as a community hub during storms and power cuts.
At the same meeting, £3,000 was awarded to the Workington Town Community Trust for story sacks that will be used in Maryport schools, and the Brigham War Memorial Hall received £3,528 towards renovating the venue’s toilets. Members noted £461 for Cockermouth Town Council towards a larger gazebo for public events.
Sally Lansbury, the newly elected chair of the Lakes to Sea Community Panel, said: “It is wonderful to be able to make grass roots investments that make an immediate difference to the lives of our communities.
“I encourage other community groups and parish councils to get in touch and see if there is funding available to help with their own initiatives. The community panels are here to help.”
The Lakes to Sea Community Panel covers the wards of Bothel and Wharrels, Cockermouth North, Cockermouth South, Dearham and Broughton, Keswick, Maryport North and Maryport South.
The application deadline for the next round of community panel support for the Lakes to Sea area is August 25. Email [email protected] for more details.
