A burglar took a selfie on a mobile phone he stole during a Carlisle Rugby Club break-in.
Carlisle Magistrates Court was told that Kevin Bigg, 41, was seen going into the rugby club, off Warwick Road, and leaving the premises after the offence last Thursday evening, July 10.
Mobile phones were among the items stolen from rugby players as they trained nearby.
When Bigg was later arrested, he was found in possession of iPods which had been stolen from the building.
One of the snatched mobile phones was sold on but later tracked down by its owner.
Prosecutor Diane Jackson told magistrates that Bigg had taken a photograph of himself on the stolen device.
Bigg admitted burglary, having entered the rugby club as a trespasser, and having stolen a number of personal items of an unknown value.
He was initially set to put forward a formal basis for the entry of his guilty plea. However, defence solicitor Katie Scattergood said during today’s short hearing that Bigg accepted he would be sentenced according to the full facts put forward by the prosecutor.
Magistrates adjourned the case, requesting that a probation officer prepare a pre-sentence report giving details of the defendant’s background and putting forward any non-custodial recommendations.
Bigg, of Fairfield Gardens, Carlisle, is due to receive his sentence at the magistrates’ court on Friday, August 8.
In the meantime he has been granted conditional bail. One condition bans him from going to the rugby club.
