West Cumbria’s first disability rugby team has gone from strength to strength and is now looking for kit sponsors.
Workington Storm RLFC was set up by 18-year-old Jayden Blair, who said there was a lack of opportunities for people with disabilities to play sport in the area, in March.
Jayden said the side was now in position to start ordering kits and playing matches – but needed support from the West Cumbrian to help make their goal a reality.
Jayden said the club was planning to enter teams into the LDRL (learning disability) league and PDRL (physical disability) league.
He added: “There is also a strong mental health side to all this as statistics show people with disabilities are more likely to struggle with mental illness and confidence.
“I want to help people grow their confidence together as a team and make new mates at the same time.

“Rugby league is often referred to as the people’s game and credited as the community game so I knew this step was essential in making rugby league available to everyone.”
He is hoping local businesses will step forward to offer kit sponsorship.
He added: “Sponsorship from companies means they get to be a part of history and have their logo embroidered into the kit of the first ever disability rugby team in West Cumbria and it also means our players finally get the chance to take to the field and proudly embrace the badge they represent after months of training week-in-week-out.”
