
Firefighters have tackled a vehicle blaze on the M6.
Three fire crews were called to the incident, between junctions 40 and 39 on the southbound carriageway on Thursday, September 4.
Two fire engines from Penrith and one from Shap attended and were called at around 4pm.
Penrith Fire Station said: “The vehicle was well alight on arrival.
“A full motorway closure was necessary due to the intensity of the fire and safety of our firefighters.
“The fire was extinguished using four breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and compressed air foam system.”

Firefighters reminded drivers that if they experienced a vehicle fire, they should pull over at a safe place, keep your distance behind safety barriers where possible and call the emergency services.
