New wellbeing sessions to launch in West Cumbria

New wellbeing sessions in West Cumbria are being launched next month.

The sessions, organised by new community health hub Hope Haven, will be held at The Gather in Ennerdale Bridge.

The project will also expand the number of sessions it offers at The Senhouse Centre in Whitehaven.

The Hope Haven team will be at The Gather every Wednesday from October 1 to November 5.

Staff from iCan Wellbeing CIO – one of the partners of Hope Haven – will offer two activities.

There will be chair-based exercise from 10.30am to 11am, suitable for all abilities and all ages 18-plus.

From noon to 1pm, people are invited to explore Ikigai, a Japanese concept that means reason for being.

Through simple activities like journaling and reflection, people will discover what they love, what they’re good at, and how to bring meaning into their life.

All the sessions are free. People are asked to book a space for the Ikigai workshops, by emailing [email protected], or calling 01228 819101.

Other Hope Haven staff will also be at The Gather between 10am and 1pm each Wednesday. People are welcome to stop by for a chat about health, housing, money, or other problems that are affecting their wellbeing.

Emma Shepherd, manager at The Gather, said: “We are delighted to welcome Hope Haven to The Gather.

“Our rural community can often feel isolated, so anything that encourages people to come together and offers valuable support is truly wonderful.

“We are pleased to provide a welcoming space for these new sessions, and believe they align perfectly with our mission to foster community connection and well-being.”

Hope Haven’s permanent home on King Street is currently being refurbished and is expected to open by the end of the year.

Once complete, it will be a place where anyone can walk in and get help without needing an appointment, a referral, or having to join a waiting list.

While the refurbishment of the building is underway, Hope Haven is offering weekly community drop-ins, wellbeing walks, and a chatty café.

New sessions are offered at The Senhouse Centre in Whitehaven town centre.

In addition to regular family and friends sessions for carers on Mondays, housing and money advice on Tuesdays, and wellbeing workshops on Wednesdays, from October at The Senhouse Centre there will be:

Bellicon rebound trampoline exercise sessions, every Wednesday and Friday, starting October 1, from 2pm to 3pm.

Chair-based exercise every Friday, starting October 3, from 10.30am to 11.30am.

Four-week Ikigai courses starting on October 3, October 31, and November 28 from 12.30pm to 1.30pm. Book by contacting [email protected] or call 01228 819101.
