Rail passengers warned of continued disruption after Storm Amy

Avanti West Coast said following Storm Amy, services continued to be disrupted today, Sunday October 5.

While conditions had improved, it said, and disruption was significantly less severe than yesterday, some routes may still be subject to short-notice changes or cancellations.

This includes services on its routes north of Preston, and services towards Liverpool Lime Street.

People are advised to check before travelling and allow extra time for their journey.

Damage to overhead electric wires between Crewe and Warrington Bank Quay yesterday resulted in the line towards Warrington Bank Quay becoming blocked.

TransPennine Express said there was a good service on most of its network.

Network Rail said in Scotland, there were over 60 incidents in the first two hours of the storm on Friday.

On Friday night, all services on the West Coast Main Line between Carlisle and Glasgow and between Carlisle and Edinburgh were cancelled due to flooding between Lockerbie and Carstairs.

Heavy rain was flooding the area between Staveley and Windermere, blocking lines between these stations. As a result, trains that run between Oxenholme Lake District and Windermere ran between Oxenholme Lake District and Staveley only.
