Hardknott Pass will be closed for 12 days next month so a cattle grid can be replaced.
Cumberland Council will start work on the cattle grid, near Cockley Beck on Monday November 3.
The work is due to be completed on Friday November 14, subject to weather and site conditions.
A full road closure will be in place 24 hours a day for the duration of the work.
A signed diversion route will be in place.
Cumberland Council said: “While access for pedestrians and dismounted cyclists will be maintained at all times, the closure at the cattle grid will effectively close Hardknott Pass as a through route during this period.
“Residents, businesses, and road users are encouraged to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.”
