A project to help people connect with nature in the Lake District has been awarded £20,000.
The Lake District Foundation has been awarded the cash from National Lottery Awards for All to launch the new 12-month project.
It will build on the foundation’s successful Lake District for Everyone programme and will create inclusive resources, promote micro-volunteering, and provide mentoring to community groups who want to get more involved in environmental action.
A new online hub will promote micro-volunteering opportunities with partners such as Fix the Fells, while outreach and mentoring will support community groups to develop their own projects.
The foundation said it would also raise awareness at key events including the Westmorland Show and Windermere Science Festival.
Downloadable guides and myth-busting materials will encourage sustainable, low-cost days out in Cumbria.
The project aims to make nature and climate action more accessible, breaking down barriers around cost, confidence and information as well as inspiring people to connect with the natural world in new ways.
Sarah Swindley, CEO of the Lake District Foundation, said: “This funding will help us share practical tools and volunteering opportunities with communities across Cumbria.
“Together we can build confidence, strengthen connections with nature and inspire more people to take environmental action close to home.”
