
Workington Conservative Club kept pace at the top of Division One in their latest L&L Property Contractors Snooker League match.
They had to grind-out a hard-fought 3-2 away win over Division Two’s United Club B.
The Cons got off to a winning start as Alan Moore edged past Shane Tallentire 56-51 in a tense opening frame.
Julian Plaza extended the lead with a composed 57-34 victory over Stephen Harrison. However, United B battled back impressively in frame three as Stephen Jackson dominated Brian Kendall with a superb 67-13 performance.
Ryan Barker restored the two-frame cushion for the Cons with a 54-30 win over Adam Sowden, before United B pulled one back through Andrew Carter in the final frame to end the match just one adrift.
The result leaves the Conservative Club in third place in Division One on 14 points, while United B remain fourth in Division Two on eight points.
Division One champions United Club A survived a tough away test at Division Two’s Workington Golf Club, coming away with a 3-2 win to stay second in the table.
United A took control early as Dave Chapman dispatched Mark Brasted 64-37, followed by Clive Lister’s 55-20 victory over Bryan Walker for a 2-0 lead.
Lewis Tilley gave the Golf Club a lifeline, defeating Mark Suitor 61-17 in frame three.
United captain Andrew Mitchelhill restored a two-frame cushion with a composed 60-34 win over Phil Sorfleet, making it 3-1 and securing the match.
In the final frame, Golf Club’s Simon Fraser played well to beat Peter O’Hagan 66-52 and limit the deficit to 3-2. United Club A remain second in Division One on 15 points, while Golf Club stay third in Division Two on seven points.
Whitehaven’s Rack Shack continued their strong start to their Division Two campaign with a gritty 3-2 away win over Division One’s Workington Veterans Club.
Rack Shack opened strongly as Neil Dougherty beat Mark Tunstall 61-32, and Chris McKelvey edged Paul Johnston 58-34 to make it 2-0.
The Vets fought back through Kevin Basnett however, as with a break of 46 the home side captain defeated Lee Dougherty 72-17.
Adam Morilla was in no mood to see the comeback continue as a frame four 35-25 win over Mark Tatton saw the visitors clinch the match victory.
The night ended on a positive for the Vets however as a 66-26 victory in the final frame pulled it back to 3-2 in an enthralling contest.
Rack Shack top Division Two with 12 points and remain unbeaten, while Vets Club A sit fourth in Division One on 11 points, but having played one fewer game than the top three.
Maryport Social edged a scrappy encounter against fellow Division Two side Workington Legion, securing a 3-2 away win in a match full of twists and turns.
Maryport began strongly with Sal Cakmak seeing off Dan Hallam 63-27 but Adam Hodgson hit back for the Legion by defeating Andrew Scott 63-44 for 1-1.
Maryport went ahead again as Stuart Shepherd ground out a 56-27 win over Simon Tootle before Jordan Ferguson took the match to a decider for the home side with a 51-49 black ball win over Andrew Skidmore.
In the decider, Andrew Sharp held his nerve to beat Ian Bisset 60-49 and complete the Maryport Social match victory at 3-2.
Maryport stay second in Division Two with nine points, while Legion remain bottom on seven points.
