A multi-agency response to battle flooding across Cumbria remains ongoing.
Heavy rain overnight has led to substantial problems on some roads – mainly in the north and west of the county.
The Cumbria Local Resilience Forum met this morning and this afternoon and will continue to meet as the adverse weather continues.
Chief Superintendent Carl Patrick, of Cumbria Constabulary, is chairing the forum response.
He said: “The public can be reassured that our multi-agency response is well underway.
“Emergency services and other partners including the Environment Agency, National Highways, Cumberland Council and Westmorland and Furness Council have been responding through the night to calls for service with all agencies working together.
“The weather forecast suggests the worst of the rain has cleared in Cumbria but we do expect some impact to travel to continue.
“If you are travelling, please take care. If you do come across a flooded road, please do not attempt to travel through as you cannot be sure of the water’s depth.”
Drivers are urged to avoid floodwater where possible, as there have been reports of cars getting stuck in floodwater, causing additional problems by then blocking routes.
A small number of homes across Cumbria have also reported floodwater entering their properties.
If you see any issues on the roads, you can report them to the Cumberland Council Highways team at www.cumberland.gov.uk . Or call the Cumberland Council Highways Hotline on: 0300 373 3736.
You can also contact the council on 0300 373 3730 for help and support. This line is available 24 hours.
