A Cumbria NHS boss has taken fundraising efforts to new heights.

James Duncan, chief cxecutive of Cumbria, Northumberland, Tyne and Wear NHS Foundation Trust, has braved a skydive to raise funds for the Trust’s charity.

He raised £1,727 for the SHINE Fund, which provides extras that make a big difference to supporting patient care.

James jumped out of a plane last month at Grange-over-Sands.

He said: “I have to say it was an amazing experience. I kept expecting the nerves to kick in but they just didn’t. I enjoyed every second.

“Thank you to everyone who has sponsored me. I’m delighted to have raised so much. The charity is going from strength to strength, and I know the money will be used well to support people who have been in or are in contact with our services.”

Daria Ansari-Saeid, marketing officer for the charity, said: “We are amazed by James’s courage and generosity. The funds he has raised will bring comfort and joy to patients at a time that can be especially difficult for many patients and their carers.”

SHINE helps improve the experience of patients receiving care in CNTW’s hospital and community services by providing therapeutic activities and items of comfort.

These can make a big difference to patients and their carers who are often going through one of the most difficult times in their lives.

The funding from SHINE helps provide the extras that assist with people’s care, helping them towards living happier, fuller lives.

The charity has supported patients with everything from horse riding and gardening tools to bikes and Christmas decorations for wards.

Since launching in 2014, SHINE has funded hundreds of projects, including exercise equipment, pet therapy and yoga classes.
