Police are targeting drink and drug drivers in the run-up to Christmas.
Cumbria police’s Operation Limit began on December 1 and over the last 24 hours, officers said they had made four arrests in the last 24 hours.
They said they received a report of a collision in Kingstown in Carlisle yesterday morning, December 4.
One of the drivers involved left the scene but was traced to his home address in Carlisle.
He was given a breath test, was more than double the drink-drive limit and was arrested.
Officers in Kendal yesterday morning spotted a car with a brake light out.
After speaking to the driver – a man from Kirkby Stephen – they carried out a roadside drugs wipe which came back positive for cannabis. He was arrested.
Officers stopped a car on the M6 near Carlisle yesterday afternoon and the driver – a man from Bradford – failed a drugs wipe for cannabis. He was also arrested.
Police also reminded people that failing to comply with the roadside test will not help them avoid an arrest for drink or drug driving.
A Cumbria police spokesman said: “Last night, police received information that a woman may be driving under the influence of alcohol.
“They located the car being driven through Penrith and she was pulled over.
“She admitted to officers she had drunk a glass of wine but failed to provide a specimen of breath for analysis so was arrested. She has been charged and is due to appear at court next week.”
