Kendal Parish Church was packed with NSPCC supporters for a Carols by Candlelight service which raised over £3,500 for the children’s charity.

Burneside Brass, South Lakes Acappella, Bay Community Singers, Kendal Choristers, and the children’s choir from St Oswald’s Primary School, Burneside, brought the spirit of Christmas to the spectacular setting.

Each person who attended was given a candle to light during the service as David Guest hosted the special evening.

Childline expects a call every 45 seconds this Christmas and there were nearly 4,300 Childline counselling sessions between December 24 2024 and January 4 2025.

The NSPCC Helpline dealt with nearly 1,900 child welfare contacts during the same period.

Concerns from children have included mental health, suicidal thoughts and feelings, self-harm, friendship issues and sexual abuse and exploitation.

Community fundraising manager Janette Drew said: “Thank you so much to everyone who joined us so the NSPCC and Childline can be here for children who need us the most.

“The music was incredible and we are really grateful to the amazing musicians, singers and to David for compering.

“Thanks also to TryBooking.com for sponsoring the event and all our brilliant volunteers and staff.”
