567 properties were left without power yesterday after a fault with the overhead network in north Cumbria.
Witnesses reported seeing a bright red light in the sky near Westlinton, near Carlisle, yesterday, January 6, at around 5.45pm.
They said the entire sky lit up for a couple of seconds.
A spokesman for SP Electricity North West said: “At 5.48pm, we received reports of a power cut affecting 567 properties across Westlinton due to a fault on the overhead power network.
“We responded immediately and utilising remote technology, just over 85 per cent of properties had power restored within the hour.
“Engineers then attended site, carried out a repair and restored power to the remaining properties at 9.55pm.”
