A Lake District mountain rescue team was called out to a collision on Kirkstone Pass.
It was the second call out of 2026 for Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team, on Tuesday, January 6 in the space of 90 minutes.
The first, on the same day was at 12.40pm at Aira Force after a walker in their 70s slipped on an icy path and injured their hip.
While team members were dealing with the incident, at 2pm they were called to Kirkstone Pass by police.
A car had lost control and crashed in the snow as they descended down Kirkstone Pass towards Patterdale.
A second vehicle behind then crashed into the first crashed vehicle.
One of the occupants complained of chest pains, which triggered an immediate response by the team.
Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Two Land Rovers responded and located the scene near the top of Kirkstone Pass.
“The fresh snow had caused very slippy conditions on the steep slope.
“The occupants of both vehicles were taken down the pass in the team Land Rovers.
“In the meantime, the North West Ambulance Service had dispatched a fast repose vehicle and a land ambulance.
“The casualty with chest pains was treated at the mountain rescue base by ambulance service paramedics and then cleared to be dropped off at their hotel in Glenridding.”
