An emergency meeting of the Derwent Valley Federation has been called for Wednesday, March 4 in Workington’s Union Jack Club.
It follows an approach from delegates of the West Cumberland Federation about merging the two federations together and coming under one set of officials.
The first step to facilitate this would mean the Derwent Valley Federation extending their boundaries and the purpose of the emergency meeting is to discuss whether they are prepared to do so.
A source close to the West Cumberland Federation said that there was no secretary in place and little or no prospect of appointing one.
A federation under RPRA registration can’t exist/function without a secretary and the WCF Amalgamation delegates suggested at the February 16 Amal Delegates meeting that the two feds coming together as one could be investigated to resolve the dilemma.
From that the DVF Amal delegates said they would see how their members reviewed this approach – and out of that has come a date for the meeting.
