Barrow hope to climb out of the drop zone tonight when they resume their League Two campaign at Cheltenham Town.
Bluebirds boss Dino Maamria is upbeat, despite three successive defeats, and believes the side is making progress.
They dropped into the bottom two in mid-week following Newport’s win against Tranmere and get first chance at moving out of danger tonight.
Ahead of the game he said: “We have been unfortunate in that we keep losing players which obviously hasn’t helped us.
“But I’m a positive person so I’m focussed on the players I’ve got to get us the results we need.”
Two who won’t feature tonight are Stevenage loanee Jovan Malcolm and Charlkie Raglan, but Maamria has brought a new face into the squad.
Experienced centre-half Angus McDonald, 33, has been a free agent since being released by Exeter City but has continued to train with the Devon side.
A long career, which saw him start in the Reading youth system, has seen him play three times for non-league Salisbury and twice at Torquay but also with Barnsley (50), Hull City (18), Rotherham (46), Swindon (16), Aberdeen (40) and Exeter (15) over the last 10 years.
McDonald said: “It was quite an easy conversation with the gaffer, I know the job at hand and we spoke a lot about the quality of the club and squad and after a couple of really good phone calls it felt the right club and right fit for me.
“It ultimately gets boring just training on your own and after keeping myself fit with a few clubs, I’m really excited to get going with this football club.”
