A Lake District climber was airlifted to hospital after falling 15 metres on Dow Crag.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out yesterday, Wednesday March 18, at around 2.10pm.
The climber had fallen when a large rock dislodged.
Cumbria police alerted the mountain rescue team and it was reported that the climber had sustained head injuries.
The team requested helicopter support and help from Duddon and Furness Mountain Rescue Team in case a long stretcher carry was needed.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said: “On our arrival, the casualty had already been lowered off the crag by his climbing partner, making our job easier, so thanks very much to him for that. “
After assessment, the climber was winched and airlifted by the Coastguard helicopter for transport to hospital in Blackpool.
It was the second callout of the day for the team, who had just returned from the first when they were alerted to the climber.
At around 11.30am, walkers found a man at Saddlestone Quarry on the Old Man of Coniston who was quite unwell and lying on the ground.
They called Cumbria police, who asked the mountain rescue team to help.
Coniston Mountain Rescue Team said: “We despatched two vehicles as far as possible, and walked up from there.
“The man was assessed and carried down on our stretcher to our vehicles. He was then taken to our base for a handover to a land ambulance crew.”
