An oil painting by the St Ives School artist Hilda Fearon, a family collection of Percy Kelly artwork and valuable jewellery were among the highest selling lots in Mitchell’s Antiques & Fine Art Sale last week.

The oil on canvas painting by Hilda Fearon (1878-1917), depicting ladies having tea with melon and flowers, signed and dated 1912 and measuring 75 x 62cm framed, was sold for £7,500.

The highest selling artworks by Percy Kelly (1918-1993) among a family collection was a small ink and watercolour scene of a country lane and farmhouse with haystacks measuring 8 x 9.5cm, which sold for £2,400.

A large watercolour depicting a coastal scene in Pembrokeshire, signed and dated 1975 and measuring 53 x 106cm made £2,300 and a watercolour of Christchurch Allonby with gravestones and sunset also did well selling for £2,200.

Mitchells still holds the all-time auction record price for a Kelly painting with Red Bridge Near Aspatria sold in September for £7,200.

Jewellery was also among the highest selling lots, the most valuable being a 9ct gold charm bracelet with a gross weight of 111 grams sold for £3,600 and an 18ct gold stamped 750 foliate bracelet with a gross weight of 50 grams which made £3,260.

A Royal Worcester Hand Painted Fruit Study lidded vase or pot pourri signed J Bowman measuring 30cm in height made £6,500 and an 18th century German silver gilt ecuelle cover and stand weighing 804 grams sold for £2,700.

Sold for £2,800 was a Highland Light Infantry Military Scottish dirk in a mahogany and blue velvet lined case with a photograph of the original owner, Mr John MacDonald, Captain Highland Light Infantry 5th Battalion, who died on 13/7/1915 and is buried at Gallipoli.

Highest selling furniture lots included a pair of matching Victorian mahogany serving tables sold for £3,000 and a Robert Mouseman Thompson oak hall stand with carved mouse motif which made £2,100.
