A major search was sparked in South Cumbria after a person was spotted going into the sea in South Cumbria.
Furness Coastguard said there were concerns about the welfare of the person who was spotted entering the water south of Newbiggin on Coast Road on Friday, June 26.
Furness Coastguard said: “As the first emergency responders arrived, fading light meant the individual was no longer visible to the witnesses who had initially had sight of him.”
The team, Cumbria police, Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service, Ulverston Inshore Rescue’s quad bikes and hovercraft, Barrow RNLI’s inshore lifeboat. Bay Search & Rescue’s drone and the Coastguard helicopter launched an immediate search of the area.
Furness Coastguard said: “Despite an extensive search of the coast and surrounding inland areas, no casualty was located.
“Following discussions with the Coastguard Rescue Co-ordination Centre at Holyhead, the search was suspended, and Furness Coastguard stood down at 5am today, Saturday June 27.”
