Corney Fell has been closed to traffic for emergency repairs.

Recent deterioration of the road has prompted Cumberland Council to put the emergency 10-day road closure in place.

The authority said the road was closed yesterday, Wednesday April 1 and the length of work on site was dependent on weather and site conditions.

Contactors will carry out carriageway patching and drainage work.

During the road closure access for residents will be limited during working hours of 8am to 4pm.

Traffic marshals will always be on site during the work to help get people to their property, when safe to do so, the council added.

Full access will be available for emergency service vehicles, pedestrians, and dismounted cyclists throughout the work.

Waste and recycling collections will proceed as usual. Passengers with bus route questions are encouraged to contact Stagecoach directly.

Cumberland Council said it recognised that the road was a key route, and some temporary inconvenience may occur during the work.

It added it was working closely with local stakeholders, including the parish council and local members, to reduce disruption as much as possible.
