There’s a full programme in the Cumberland County League for Easter Saturday with both league and cup games in the eight fixtures.
It’s a big day for Division One side Silloth as they travel to Premier Division Mirehouse in the semi-final of the Benevolent Cup.
Silloth have made positive strides this season in the League, established now in solid mid-table after not too long ago being the whipping boys.
They beat Premier Division strugglers Keswick in a quarter final tie that finished all square and which they won on penalties.
But it’s a tough test in West Cumbria against a Mirehouse side who are one of the established sides in the Premier Division.
There are three Premier Division fixtures – with Unisun close to landing the title while relegation candidates Keswick and Wigton Harriers both have crucial games.
Unison host Workington Juniors and victory would put them 12 points ahead of their nearest rivals Maryport Athletic who have four games left to play. Unison will still have another three after Saturday.
As for the battle to avoid the drop Wigton Harriers go to doomed Cleator Moor Celtic reserves and will be expecting to record their first win of the season to go with their eight draws.
Keswick are two points behind Wigton Harriers with a game in hand – and one of them will be relegated with Cleator Moor Celtic reserves. Worryingly for Keswick they expect a three-point penalty for failing to fulfil a fixture last month.
New manager Matty Thomson saw a positive performance against Unisun in his first game in charge, despite the 3-0 defeat.
He said: “Unisun were very complimentary about us after the game which was encouraging. I have set the lads a target for the last five games and we will see what happens starting at Whitehaven Miners Social on Saturday.”
Maryport Athletic, seeing the league title slip from their grasp, will hope for compensation in cup competitions and on Saturday host Cockermouth in the Whitehaven Cup.
In the other Whitehaven Cup game Division One Northbank have Premier Division Aspatria as visitors.
It will be a big day for Dearham United if they win at Whitehaven Miners Development as that would give them the Division One title.
