Doubts have been cast over the future of Lakes Distillery’s bistro and shop.
It is understood that both are likely to close in the next two weeks, with tours also set to stop and staff redundancies likely.
The 11-acre Setmurthy distillery, near Bassenthwaite Lake, is owned by London-based Nyetimber Wines and Spirits Group.
It said it could not comment on the situation, but confirmed it was currently going through a process.
It is also understood that staff have been informed through internal one-to-one meetings.
A spokesman said: “We cannot offer comment on this situation presently and will share an update when we are able to do so.”
It confirmed its focus remained on producing English luxury single malt whisky and white spirits.
The Lakes Distillery was set up in 2011 and started operations in December 2014. The site currently includes a distillery, visitor centre, shop and bistro.
It was acquired by Nyetimber Wines and Spirits Group in 2024 in a £71 million deal.
Nyetimber chief executive Eric Heerema and managing director Hans Sleeuwenhoek were appointed as directors.
