The Cumberland County League has been fitting in a number of midweek games ahead of a full programme tomorrow.
The most significant was probably the Premier Division game at Aspatria where the home side beat Keswick 3-1. It’s a result which all but relegates the Lakes side.
Andrew Trestianu, Logan Dixon and Dan Pearson scored for the home side with Charlie Robson netting in reply.
Consolation for Keswick is that new manager Matty Thomson has introduced numerous Under-17’s to the squad since taking over four matches ago and although narrowly beaten, each opposition boss was full of praise for the potential in the side.
In the other Premier Division game runners-up and former champions Maryport Athletic drew 0-0 at Whitehaven Miners.
Although beaten only once in 16 games Maryport have drawn six times, a factor which contributed to them falling behind new champions Unisun Athletic.
In Division One, Northbank won 2-1 at Cockermouth reserves to consolidate runners-up berth behind Dearham United.
Troy Patterson scored for the home side with Concalo Reis and Charlie Thomson winning the game for the Carlisle visitors.
The other game was a League Cup 2 tie – a competition contested by the bottom four in the Premier Division and the top four in Division One.
It produced a rare win for Cleator Moor Celtic reserves who won 6-2 at Wigton Harriers with goals from Darren Little, Adam Smith, Ellis Trotter, Liam Johnston, Owen Charlton and Jamie Martin.
The Wigton goals came from Jake Murdock and Jed Graham.
Two Cup games tomorrow see Premier Division sides at home to Division One opposition.
In the Whitehaven Cup Wigton Harriers take-on Northbank while a League Cup 2 quarter final has Keswick at home to Cockermouth reserves.
There are three games in both the Premier Division and Division One as clubs reach the last stretch before completing their fixtures.
Premier Division – Cleator Moor Celtic reserves v Aspatria; Maryport Athletic v Mirehouse; Whitehaven Miners Social v Workington Juniors.
Division One – Unisun Athletic Development v Bransty Rangers; Whitehaven Miners Development v Silloth; Windscale reserves v Dearham United.
