A popular transport festival is set to return to Whitehaven next month.
Leyland 54, organised by Workington Transport Heritage Trust, will show off historic buses from the 1930s onwards, many built in West Cumbria, on the town’s’ harbourside.
Now in its fifth year, the two-day festival will also operate a number of tours in and around Whitehaven, including to St Bees, Cockermouth – including the recently reopened Jennings Brewery and one that will celebrate the newly upgraded Workington Bus Station – which is the first purpose-built covered bus station in Britain, built 100 years ago.
It will be held on Saturday May 2 and Sunday May 3.
The event will also include the Eat Street Cumbria food village, fairground, craft market, exhibitor stalls, vintage car show, history exhibitions, plus more.
The festival will also celebrate the Leyland Titan, a double-decker which began operating in London 50 years ago.
Although initially assembled at the Park Royal works in London, production was subsequently transferred to the Leyland National factory at Lillyhall.
