Four people were arrested and 29 people caught speeding in a police operation in Carlisle.
Officers stopped around 90 vehicles in total on Wednesday as part of Operation Colossus, which was launched in response to people’s concerns about anti-social driving.
Officers from the Carlisle Neighbourhood Policing team were supported by officers from operational support.
Police officers also provide road safety advice to drivers as part of the operation.
The operation resulted in:
- 35 drivers reported for traffic offences, 29 of those for speeding
- Four arrests for drink or drug driving
- Five stop searches on persons/vehicles
- 15 drivers given advice following a safety check on their vehicle
Inspector Alex Johnson, of operational support said: “The results of the operation highlight the need for us to carry out such activity.
“Operation Colossus has allowed us to not just take dangerous drivers off our roads but engage with drivers within our communities.
“I would encourage anyone to report dangerous drivers to us so we can respond and stop them from potentially causing serious injury or killing someone on our roads.”
Cumbria’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner David Allen, said: “Anti-social and dangerous driving was one of the biggest issues raised with me by residents, when I consulted ahead of drafting my Police, Fire & Crime Plan. It is, therefore, a priority for policing in Cumbria.
“I’m pleased to see that the police continue to tackle dangerous driving as part of Operation Colossus and that they continue taking dangerous drivers off our roads.”
