Emergency services were called out after reports that a car had been washed out to sea.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team, Furness Coastguard and Arnside and South Lakes Coastguard Rescue Team were called out yesterday afternoon, Monday April 27.
Ulverston Inshore Rescue and Bay Search & Rescue were also called.
However, all emergency services were stood down after investigations revealed that the person thought to be in difficulty was actually a very experienced fisherman going about his business and in no danger whatsoever.
Millom Coastguard Rescue Team said: “The incident was reported from some distance and the first informant did the right thing by calling it in. It was a false alarm with good intent.”
