A Cumbrian ice cream maker is the first ever to be granted a licence to produce Beatrix Potter-inspired products.

Lakes Ice Cream, based in Kendal, has announced a major partnership with Penguin Ventures on behalf of Frederick Warne & Co Ltd.

The new range, launching in July, coincides with the 160th anniversary celebrations of the Lake District children’s author.

The first two flavours in the range are Peter Rabbit Vanilla and Flopsy Bunny Strawberry.

Andrea King, area sales manager, Lakes Ice Cream, said: “This is a hugely exciting moment for our business, and we are incredibly proud of securing the contract.

“Bringing a Beatrix Potter ice cream range to life feels authentic and meaningful and being able to honour her legacy and heritage of the Lake District, makes it even more special.”

The company said it planned to expand the range in 2027, introducing additional characters and flavours and added the partnership was expected to support growth, innovation and job creation within the region.
