After a fortnight with limited or no fixtures amateur rugby league bounces back this afternoon.
It was going to be a special double header at Maryport’s Athletic Ground with two games on a special charity day organised by the club.
Unfortunately the Cumbria Men’s League Division One clash between Maryport A and Millom A has been postponed.
The South Cumbrians have injury problems at the moment and were unable to raise sufficient players.
That leaves the Cumbria Conference clash between Maryport and Seaton Rangers to highlight the special charity day for the Sadie Reed Foundation.
It should be a cracking contest between old rivals from the Cumberland ARL who featured in three big games to end last season.
Mark Foster, of Maryport, is the featured coach in our new weekly series and you can hear his thoughts below:
Elsewhere in the Cumbria Conference probably the best game will be at Millom where Brad Crellin’s men entertain Distington, who have been putting in some good performances under Ryan Hodgson.
Hensingham will expect to improve their position at home to Hindpool Tigers.
Ellenborough travel to Barrow Island and leaders Dalton entertain Ulverston.
Unfortunately Dalton’s pre planned past players day including live music, food stall and double header with the A team playing Egremont and a first team derby against Ulverston has turned into a bit of a shambles.
Egremont A unfortunately aren’t able to travel due to injuries and holidays so a hastily planned opposed mixed session opener with the club’s under-16s was arranged.
That’s since been shelved due to a referee shortage and Ulverston availability restrictions.
As a result the first team kick off has now been brought forward to noon kick off.
The National League kicks back into gear today with a full programme.
There’s an attractive Premier Division game in prospect at Wath Brow where the Hornets have a visit from third in the table Thatto Heath Crusaders.
Ian Rooney’s men are only a point behind in fifth so know they can make important progress with a win.
Kells lead the way in Division One on points differential and also have an attractive home game in prospect.
They entertain East Leeds, runaway winners of Division Two last season and who have opened with five wins out of nine games at the higher level.
Egremont Rangers have a tasty away game with Dewsbury Moor Maroons – a match-up of third versus fourth in the table.
The Cumbria Men’s League also resume with three games in each of the Premier Division but now just one in the First Division.
In the top flight it’s Askam v Wath Brow A; Lowca v Cockermouth and Roose v Kells A.
The single Division One game left is Aspatria Hornets v Hensingham A.
