Creighton will start their centenary season with a home tie in the Cumbria Shield on September 5.
New head coach Jeff Clare is looking forward to the first competitive fixture of the season against Millom.
He is taking charge of his first training session on July 2 and will be preparing his side for the Shield encounter with two friendly games leading up to the competitive launch.
Clare has had a couple of years break from the game for an illness in the family but with positive word on that he is now ready to resume.
He had a successful spell with Cockermouth, as well as the Titans the town’s rugby league side, before joining Mike Scott’s coaching staff at Aspatria.
Jeff talks about his new role to Cumbria Crack’s John Walsh, and also on his early rugby league and international athletics career below:
Furness have returned to competitive rugby in Cumbria this coming season and they will host Carlisle in the first round of the Shield.
There’s a West Cumbrian derby in prospect with Whitehaven at home to Egremont while Keswick 2nds entertain Workington and Cockermouth will have home advantage against Ambleside.
Three clubs – St Benedict’s, Penrith 2nds and Windermere have first round byes.
The draw for the first round of the senior Cumbria Cup has also been made and it throws up a repeat of last season’s final – Keswick v Kendal.
On that occasion Kendal triumphed 29-10 at Aspatria, but Keswick with two ex-Kendal players now heading the coaching team will be looking to gain revenge on their own ground.
The draw has also produced two intriguing derby clashes – Penrith v Upper Eden and Wigton v Aspatria while the fourth tie sees Hawcoat Park entertain Kirkby Lonsdale.
As with the Shield those game are being provisionally arranged for September 5.
