A West Cumbrian pub has had its licence revoked due to concerns over drugs at the premises.
The Twisted Tongue, on New Street in Whitehaven, was the subject of a review by Cumberland Council’s licensing sub-committee.
It followed an application lodged by Cumbria Constabulary due to its significant concerns around drug activity at the premises.
The committee met yesterday, Tuesday June 23, and revoked the licence.
The force’s Whitehaven Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “We take matters of public safety, crime and disorder very seriously and welcome the verdict of the sub-committee.
“The vast majority of licensed premises in Whitehaven are operated to a high and safe standard but let this be a message to those who choose to run their businesses less desirably.
“We will continue to work closely with the Licensing Authority and partner agencies, taking robust action where necessary to keep our community safe
The premises licence holder has the right to submit an appeal to a magistrates court within 21 days.
The premises can remain open until the appeal period has concluded.
