A man has appeared in front of a judge accused of killing a pensioner by driving a motorcycle dangerously — and causing serious injury to her grandchild during the same incident.
Kieran Joseph Yorke, 22, of Workington, faces criminal charges which arise out of a collision at Ennerdale Road in Cleator Moor, on the afternoon of Tuesday May 26.
Gillian Livingstone, a 75-year-old great-grandmother from Cleator Moor, died at the scene of that collision.
Her grandchild suffered a serious head injury and was detained in hospital in a stable condition in the aftermath of the incident, said to have occurred as the pair crossed the road.
Yorke appeared at Carlisle Crown Court this afternoon.
It is alleged that Yorke caused the death of Mrs Livingstone by driving a white 2018 Husqvarna 701 Enduro motorcycle dangerously on Ennerdale Road on May 26 2026.
A second charge alleges that Yorke caused serious injury to her grandchild by driving the same motorcycle dangerously.
During a 40-minute crown court hearing in front of Judge Michael Fanning, Yorke pleaded not guilty to each of those two allegations.
He also spoke from the dock to confirm his name and date of birth.
A trial will now be held at the crown court.
This is due to start in the week of July 19 2027. The hearing, it is presently estimated, will last around five days.
In the meantime Yorke remains on conditional bail.
- A Cumbria police spokesman confirmed today that two other men — aged 22 and 23 — who were also arrested after the incident, remain on bail pending further enquiries.
