A man injured his hip after falling while swimming in Lake District waterfall.
Cumbria police received a call about the incident at Tongue Pots in the River Esk at around 8.20pm yesterday, Saturday July 25.
The man had managed to get himself out of the water before a friend went to raise the alarm.
14 Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team members were deployed, alongside the Coastguard Rescue helicopter from Caernarfon.
Rescuers made their way into the Upper Esk and reached the man, initially helping him in walking down to Lingcove bridge.
As he was only able to walk very slowly with support, the decision was made to use a stretcher for speed and comfort rather than increasing his pain.
The casualty was handed over to friends at the roadhead for onward travel in their own vehicle and was advised to attend A&E for further assessment.
The rescue operation lasted five hours and 16 minutes, finishing at 1.36am today, Sunday July 26.
Wasdale Mountain Rescue Team said: “Many thanks to Rescue 336 for their assistance, despite unable to get to casualty site due to low cloud.”
