[A]llerdale Borough Council last night [Wednesday 17 May 2017] confirmed Mary Bainbridge, the elected member for Workington St Michael’s, as its new Mayor.

Councillor Bainbridge will hold the post for the next 12 months and her Consort for her Mayoral year will be her husband, Dave. Mary was born and bred in Workington and she and Dave have three children and seven grandchildren. She works as the centre coordinator for West Cumbria Trades Hall Centre in Workington, is a member of Workington Town Council and is also involved in the work of a number of other community groups.

Her other interests include the work of the armed forces, as she has family links to the Royal British Legion, and she has also been working with supermarkets to support users of the Trades Hall who need to use Food Banks.

Mary’s chosen charity for the year will be Allerdale Disability Association. Based at Moorclose, the organisation provides information, advice and support to people with any type of disability, as well as their parents, families and carers.

At last night’s Mayor Making ceremony Councillor John Crouch, ward member for Wigton, was also installed as Deputy Mayor. His wife, Heather Robbins, will be the Deputy Mayoress.
