police crime scene[P]olice are investigating two burglaries which happened in Alston between 2am and 2.30am on Monday the 5th of June 2017.

The first burglary occurred at Moredun Garage on Station Road. Offenders forced a window to gain entry to the garage where they searched the premises.

It’s believed they may have stolen a power tool. Offenders then moved on to the Townfoot Garage and forced entry to the Spar shop. Offenders stole a large amount of cigarettes, some alcohol and cash. The property stolen is believed to be in excess of £5000.

A white Ford connect van bearing the registration NJ55 GCZ was seen around the time of the burglaries and has now been recovered by police after being abandoned nearby.

It’s believed the burglaries are connected.

Police are appealing to any witnesses to the burglaries, particularly witnesses who may have CCTV in and around where the burglaries occurred.

Anyone with information should contact DC 2117 James Aiston of Carlisle CID on 101.
