[T]he Oncology Unit at the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle (CIC), continues to deliver outstanding quality care with a recent patient experience survey (May 2017) showing 100% of patients surveyed on the unit would be highly likely or likely to recommend the service to their friends and family.

The Oncology Unit at CIC includes clinical oncology, outpatient clinics, oncology day unit and radiotherapy.

Reiver House, which is on the grounds of Cumberland Infirmary, brings chemotherapy services together in one place and offers patients a more relaxing and comfortable environment in what can be one of the most traumatic experiences in their life.

Comments from patients include:

“It’s a very smart and modern atmosphere inside and the treatment and care is very good.”

“The chemo team are fantastic. I feel so safe and looked after every time I go there.”

“The team at Reiver House have been brilliant at every one of the 7 sessions I have attended.”

“All of the staff were very efficient and kind, which in the case of cancer treatment is very much appreciated.”

Fraser Cant, Associate Chief Operating Officer for Medicine and Emergency Care, says, “The Trust is very interested in co-production opportunities that involve a patient centred approach across both our hospitals. We are continually looking for ways to improve the cancer experience both for patients and their families who are undergoing care and treatment for us.

On the 22 June at 6pm in the Education Centre at West Cumberland Hospital we are holding our second Cancer Services Listening Event. We want to hear from patients and their families about what we are doing right and what we could be doing better.

The feedback from patients in our most recent Two Minutes of Your Time survey shows that listening to patients and their feedback improves the patient experience.”

North Cumbria University Hospitals NHS Trust provides cancer care to thousands of patients and families across the county with dedicated teams at the Cumberland Infirmary and West Cumberland Hospital.
