Road improvement schemes for Kendal area

[C]umbria County Council has received £4.6m from the Department for Transport to improve the county’s highway network as part of the National Productivity Investment Fund (NPIF).  The funding is to be used to improve local roads, cut congestion and improve journey times.

Two improvement schemes in the Kendal area have been identified as projects to be delivered using part of this funding.

The schemes are:

  • An improvement scheme at the junction of Mintsfeet Road and Shap Road, Kendal. The scheme would see either traffic signals or a mini roundabout at this location, in order to ease traffic congestion within this area of the town and to improve access to employment sites in the Mintsfeet Industrial Estate. The proposed works would commence in early 2018.
  • An improvement scheme along Hollins Lane, Burneside, near Kendal. The scheme would see widening of a section of Hollins Lane adjacent to Burneside Cricket Club in order to improve access from the A591 to Burneside.

The proposed changes are detailed HERE.

Cumbria County Council is keen to understand the views of local residents and businesses on both improvement schemes.

Comments can be emailed to [email protected], by Friday 30 June 2017.

A drop-in event for the Mintsfeet scheme is planned at the Bindloss Room, Kendal Town Hall on Wednesday 21st June 2017 between 4pm and 7pm where members of the team will be on hand to answer any questions.

A drop-in event is also planned for the Burneside scheme at the Burneside Cricket Club on Thursday 22nd June 2017 between 4pm and 7pm where members of the team will be on hand to answer any questions.

These two schemes form part of a large programme of improvement works Cumbria County Council and partners are delivering in the area. The council is liaising closely with partners across this programme to ensure that works are coordinated and disruption is minimised. Further information on the wider schemes will be available in due course.
