[B]ritish icon, entrepreneur and fashion guru Vivienne Westwood entertained a packed audience at the University of Cumbria in Ambleside when she spoke about her passion for the environment.

In a wide-ranging and sometimes challenging discussion about life, climate change and her love of constant learning through reading, her talk enthralled an audience made up of students, staff, university supporters and fans of the designer.

Such was the demand for tickets for the event that extra capacity had to be arranged.

“In our 10th anniversary year we could think of no place better than Cumbria and the University of Cumbria here at Ambleside for this kind of talk,” Vice Chancellor Prof Julie Mennell told the audience. “Vivienne sparked a stimulating and exhilarating discussion and is exactly the kind of thought-provoking guest we love to welcome.”

The designer took time to talk to students from the university’s Institute of the Arts campus at Brampton Road who brought an artwork which recently featured in the institute’s degree exhibition.

The University of Cumbria’s Institute of Leadership and Sustainability (IFLAS) hosts a variety of open lectures from a wide range of speakers – the explorer Paul Rose is the next guest speaker on July 4. Tickets are available from [email protected]
