Pay brackets for the council’s top brass have been increased, though there are fewer roles following a restructure.
Westmorland and Furness Council has released the new salary grades that its new-look senior leadership is being paid.
It comes as the council is restructuring its senior leadership team, having reduced the number of posts from 29 to 25.
It has now confirmed the 25 roles and which pay grades they are under.
Four main pay bands are in place.
Up to April 1 this year, these were:
- Between £82,030 and £90,788
- Between £98,453 and £109,400
- Between £117,064 and £131,296
- Between £138,960 and £155,382
But the council said that there was a national 3.3 per cent pay rise for chief officers besides the chief executive, which came into effect from April 1.
The new bands are:
- £84,737 to £93,784
- £101,702 to £113,010
- £120,927 to £135,629
- £143,546 to £160,510
The only salary not to change is the chief executive’s, which remains at £188,228.
Four roles are on the top pay band mentioned, £143,546 to £160,510: strategic director of resources (S151 officer), strategic director of adult social care, strategic director of children’s services and strategic director of communities, place and economy.
Before restructure, there were six roles on the top pay band.
Three roles are on the second-top pay band, £120,927 to £135,629: director of law and governance, director of public health, strategy and community wellbeing, and the chief innovation, technology and digital officer.
There were also three roles at this band before restructure.
Then there are 17 roles on the third-top pay band, £101,702 to £113,010:
- Director of customer and digital
- Director of HR/OD
- Director of technology, cyber security and data services
- Director of finance (deputy S151)
- Director of procurement and commissioning
- Director of capital delivery and assets
- Director of waste, environment, climate and technology
- Director of highways, transport and infrastructure
- Director of planning and regeneration
- Director of safer and stronger communities
- Director of housing
- Director of quality, resources, transformation and integration
- Director of operations (adults services)
- Director of care services
- Director of children and families
- Director of quality, resources and transformation (children’s)
- Director of education and inclusion
This is compared to 16 roles under that band before restructure.
Also before restructure were a further three roles on the lowest pay band, then £82,030 to £90,788, of which there are none in the current senior leadership team.
The council said that the senior leadership restructure, having taken effect from July 1, is expected to save £403,000 over the remainder of the financial year, which would be £660,000 over a full financial year.
The staffing committee on July 14 will decide whether to approve the pay policy statement, which will reflect the new changes in the senior leadership team.
