[P]olice have confirmed a teenager has been arrested after they received intelligence that a man was planning to attack people attending an LGBT event at New Empire, Dalton Road, Barrow.

A 19-year-old man from Barrow was arrested on suspicion of threats to kill and is now being taken to police custody.

Police are not looking for anyone else in connection with this incident.

Superintendent Mark Pannone said: “I would like to thank everyone for their assistance and vigilance tonight. Cumbria Police’s priority is always to keep people safe.

“There is now no threat to anyone or any specific group in the south Cumbria area.”

Police were urging people who were planning to attend to let their friends know, and consider staying at home instead as a precaution.

The event was scheduled to take place between 9pm tonight into the early hours of tomorrow morning.

Armed police were deployed to the area as a precaution.

As always, please report anything suspicious to Cumbria Police on 101 or 999 in an emergency.
