Rafa, the cocker spaniel who belongs to Bay Hospitals Charity’s Head of Charity & Fundraising Paula Richardson, will be getting a wiggle on to help the Bayb’s appeal and is hoping to make lots of four legged friends on Wiggle Waggle Walk day!

[G]et a wiggle on to help Bay Hospitals Charity’s Bayb’s Maternity Appeal reach its £250,000 target!

Bayb’s co-ordinator Heidi Bowron is organising a Wiggle Waggle Walk – that’s a walk with your dog – at 10 am on Sunday, August 27th. It will set out from Abbey Mill Café to follow a three-mile route through the grounds of Furness Abbey.

Registration for the walk, which costs £8 per family and their dog or dogs (however many dogs) to join inclusive of doggy gifts, is now open and Heidi is hoping the event will match the success of her Piel Island Walk in May that raised £2,000 for the appeal and is back again next year by popular demand. Heidi said: “I’m envisaging the Wiggle Waggle Walk as very much a fun event that will bring out lots of local dog owners and their four legged friends.”

Already, Grove Veterinary Centre, of Rawlinson Street, Barrow, has offered to sponsor the Wiggle Waggle Walk, while Pet’s Paradise, of Barrow Indoor Market, has gifted a selection of treats for all tail-wagging finishers!

To sign up, telephone Heidi on 01229 404473, call in to the Bay Hospitals Charity office in the entrance foyer of Furness General Hospital or visit Bay Hospitals Charity’s website at www.bayhospitalscharity.org

The Bayb’s Maternity Appeal is funding “extras” for the new maternity unit being built at Furness General Hospital. These ”extras” fall outside the remit of what the NHS is able to fund but have been added to a shopping list of items, all designed to make the unit second to none in the country while giving it a real home from home feel for local families and for newborns, the best possible start in life.
