[A]n exhibition showing the work of the ‘UK’s Best Up and Coming Artist of the Year’, Lucy Pittaway, is opening at the Dales Countryside Museum in Hawes.

Running from 19 July to 2 October, it includes paintings from Lucy’s collection, ‘The Sheep’, featuring iconic Dales landmarks such as Penhill, Bolton Castle and Richmond Castle.

The exhibition also includes Lucy’s bright and colourful ‘Cycling and Le Tour’ collection, which she created as official artist of the Tour de Yorkshire.  This year’s official race piece, titled ‘Pedals, Passion and Glory’, is on show.

Richmond-based Lucy Pittaway, a former teacher, said: “I am delighted to work with the Dales Countryside Museum to exhibit so many pieces of work inspired by our stunning Yorkshire Dales. It’s the perfect setting in Hawes and I hope the visitors to the museum enjoy the exhibition.

“I used to create work in a very photo-realistic style.  As soon as I had my children, my style completely changed and it was as though I’d gone back to being a child again and started to see things through their eyes – in a more illustrative way.”

The Dales Countryside Museum is owned and run by the Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority.  Museum Manager Fiona Rosher said: “We are delighted to be hosting an exhibition of new work by Lucy Pittaway. Lucy’s love of nature and the special landscape of the Yorkshire Dales is evident. She is inspired by the strikingly different seasons and the ever changing skies, capturing them through her skilful use of pastels.”

Lucy Pittaway is the UK’s “Up and Coming Artist of the Year 2016” as voted by the Fine Art Trade Guild. Visit www.lucypittaway.co.uk to see the full range of her work.
